MEN: Men should wear clothes that fit and show the lines of the body. No baggy clothes.

_____________

NOTE: Dames at Sea is a valentine to the early 30s Busby Berkeley movie musicals. It must not be “sent up” or played for camp. Helpful references are the films 42nd Street, Gold Diggers of 1933, and Footlight Parade. All actors must have period style and keen comic sensibilities. This production will be a tap dancing extravaganza – all the more clever, as there are only 6 actors in the cast.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

MONA
Early 30s to mid 40s: The ultimate Broadway diva. A true star of the highest caliber. Comedic actress with strong singing and dancing skills (basic tap skills needed).

RUBY
Late teens to early 20s: Innocent, pure, right off the bus from Centerville, Utah, with hopes of becoming a Broadway star. There must be something very special about the actress playing this role. She is not the typical ingénue. Strong legit singer and strong dancer including high level of tap.

JOAN
Early to mid 20s: Tough-talking, wise-cracking chorus girl, but mother hen to Ruby. Strong belt and mix and strong dancer including high level of tap.

HENNESEY/CAPTAIN
Mid 30s to mid 40s: This is a dual role played by one actor. HENNESEY is the harried stage director about to lose his theater and job if his show doesn't open. The CAPTAIN commands the ship where the show ultimately takes place. Strong comedic actor and strong singing skills and movement (tap skills a plus, but not absolutely necessary).

DICK
Early to mid 20s: A sailor who is also a song writer. He falls hard for RUBY, but gets entangled with MONA. Must be earnestly sincere. Strong singer and strong dancer including high level of tap. High baritone/tenor.

LUCKY
Early to mid 20s: A sailor, best buddy to DICK. A charming character comedian. He is in love with JOAN, but won't commit to her. Strong singer and strong dancer including high level of tap. Baritone.

NOTE: ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICITIES AND BACKGROUNDS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
