Breakdown

Seeking a cast replacement and a potential understudy replacement for this smash hit, Ovation-Recommended, critically-acclaimed show currently in its 8th month, and extended through August 7. Replacement will join the cast on July 1. Please note, the show is now running under an AEA contract.

CAUGHT, a world premiere comic drama, centers on Kenneth and Troy-- an attractive, successful, committed gay couple living in Los Angeles. Only days before their upcoming wedding, Kenneth's estranged, culturally-conservative sister, Darlene, and her daughter unexpectedly visit from Georgia. CAUGHT explores the meaning of 'marriage', and how a family can find a way to meet in the middle while navigating long-standing religious values and staying true to their core beliefs.

Seeking strong actors with stage experience and strong comic timing. Actors will be asked to prepare two contrasting, contemporary, one minute monologues--one comic and one dramatic.

[J.P.] Male, mid 30s to early 40s, Caucasian. Fundamentalist Southern Christian Preacher. He is Darlene's husband, Krystal's Father. He oozes charm and charisma. He speaks with a strong south Georgia dialect. J.P. is not a bad guy, but simply a human who has strong beliefs, and who has made some mistakes. He finds himself at a crossroad, more scared and vulnerable than he has ever been. Actor must have deep emotional access.

[DARLENE] U/S only Female, mid 30s, Caucasian. J.P's Wife, Krystal's Mother, Kenneth's sister. A proper, southern preacher's wife, but no shrinking violet. She is very strong and self-disciplined. She can be fiery and feisty. She sees her life choices as yes and no, black and white, with no room for gray or maybe. She speaks with a sweet, south Georgia dialect. Understudy will be guaranteed at least two performances, and more if the play continues to extend.
