LITTLE CEE CEE – Female presenting, 8–10. An old-time comic in the body of a singing, dancing 9âyearâold girl (think Bette Midler as a kid). Spectacularly talented — not just for her age, but for any age. Already a diva. Wild red hair, loves quirky, sparkly clothes, has a vocabulary of adult words (many outrageously inappropriate). Probably has never had a friend her own age. Strong, powerful singer (mostly belt, a little mix). Must dance well; tap is a plus. No taller than 4'4.
LITTLE BERTIE – Female presenting, 8–10. Even at age eight, Little Bertie lives under the stringent rules of propriety taught by her widowed mother. Only when she meets Little Cee Cee are her eyes opened to how the world can be outside her sheltered, restricted life. Solid singer with a pretty voice; mix and a little belt. No taller than 4'4.
CEE CEE – Female presenting, mid 30s–early 40s. Think Bette Midler at the height of her career. Beloved, funny, talented as an actress as well as a singer. Rough around the edges but with a big loving heart. THIS ROLE IS CAST.
BERTIE – Female presenting, mid 30s–early 40s. Still longing to break out of the debutante mold but not yet knowing how. She marries Michael to please her mother but never, as she later admits, falls in love with him. Until Nina is born, Cee Cee is Bertie's only source of joy and laughter. THIS ROLE IS CAST.
