BE SURE TO PUT THE TITLE OF THE SHOW AND THE ROLE YOU'RE INTERESTED IN
ON THE FRONT OF THE ENVELOPE!
Seeking the following only (submit only if you are right for one or more these roles and you are free to work throughout the contract dates):
Annie:
Performer must seem to be 11 years old. Annie is spunky, warm, indomitable, sincere, smart, wise. Likable without being overly cute, pushy or forced. Caring. Covers her loneliness and pain with a sunny disposition, optimistic attitude and her ability to take action and solve problems. An adventurer; plucky; willing to risk. She really takes the hero's journey. Always able to find the good in whatever situation she finds herself in; naturally optimistic – but needs to be so without being sicky-sugary. Very strong belt.
Oliver Warbucks:
40-50. Man of tremendous energy, drive and charisma. Fills the space he occupies. No-nonsense, decisive entrepreneur with a warm, if somewhat masked, heart. Can be lonely and guarded -- much of his drive comes from his isolation -- occasionally brusque. Runs a tight ship, but is a pussycat beneath the successful veneer. Waiting to have his heart unlocked, without knowing it. High baritone.
Grace Farrell:
Late 20s/early-mid 30s. It should not be out of the realm of possibility that Grace and Oliver might end up a romantic couple some time in the future. Tailored, professional, efficient, smart, good at what she does. Easy elegance and class without being brittle or cold. Warm heart. Smart. Compassionate. Good sense of humor. A woman ahead of her time: feminist sensibility without being shrill, aggressive or overbearing. Always appropriate, but doesn't shrink from her beliefs and values. Should move-dance gracefully. Chest/soprano.
Rooster:
Late 20s - late 30s. Should be a credible brother to Miss Hannigan. Small-time hustler; small-time brain (he just doesn't know it). Sleazy, but not without sex appeal. Always on the lookout for the next quick buck. Doesn't think things through carefully or completely. Bit of a dangerous edge. Good mover-dancer. High baritone w/high G.
Lily St. Regis:
Mid 20s – mid 30s. Fried and frazzled; a flapper who has managed to outlive the 1920s. Her personal light bulb burns at a very low wattage. Sexy in a sleazy way … clothes a little too tight, make-up a little overdone. If she doesn't actually chew gum, it should seem that she does. Always has a flask of something close at hand. Good mover-dancer. Chest/soprano character mix.
Miss Hannigan:
Late 30s - 50. Has seen better days. Role for a low comedienne (but should be able to play for high stakes). Hannigan borders on the sadistic/cruel, but can't cross the line entirely or for very long. Like everyone else, she’s trying to hold it together and get through the Depression. Never without her bottle for very long. Good mover-dancer. Strong character belt.
FDR:
Age 51 when the play takes place. Actor needs to bear a credible resemblance to Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR is a robust personality. Big thinker, big ideas, commanding presence. Big heart. WASP background, but not without the common touch. Can inspire the nation. Actor may also need to double elsewhere in the Act I Ensemble (Hooverville Resident; NYC Ensemble).
ECCs/Singers and Dancers: 9/19/11 at Chelsea Studios. Seeking a variety of types to play Ensemble characters. See separate ECC notice.
