"Hilarious," "Intelligent," "Provocative," and "Scorching," all describe Robert Dubac's new solo show FREE RANGE THINKING. Dubac is best known to Denver audiences from his previous one-man show The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? Combining theater with stand-up comedy, Dubac buckles us in for a fast-paced joy ride over the pot-holed highways of cultural hypocrisy. Riding shotgun with intelligence and absurdity he crashes head first into the barriers of politics, religion and the media. FREE RANGE THINKING may be offensive to some but there's laughter for all. Robert Dubac's FREE RANGE THINKING plays the Garner Galleria Theatre October 21-November 14 and is sponsored by MillerCoors. Single tickets go on sale Sunday, August 15 at www.denvercenter.org or by phone and walk-up Monday, August 16 at 10am.
In FREE RANGE THINKING Dubac is our everyman asking the big questions. Who am I? Why is the truth offensive? Is there a bigger picture? If I cheat on my voice of reason will it still talk to me? Should Mel Gibson upgrade from an i-Phone to an f-Phone? Paper or plastic?Luckily, his voice of reason calls him on his iPhone with instructions on how to assemble his own personal door of truth. Once erected he opens it and dives head first into the hypocrisies of society in search of the bigger picture. And he's not alone. With mesmerizing ease he transforms himself into a cast of characters who all take turns beating the hornet's nest of hype and spin with the big stick of knowledge.Dubac's characters help illuminate his point. As "Uncle Bobby" he ignores etiquette to expose the media for using Pavlov to breed ignorance. As "Phillip Pomeroy" he solves the problem of partisan politics with an idea so absurd it borders on brilliance. And as "The Colonel" he levies a stupid tax on our common sense while ragging on religion for taking the "fun" out of fundamentalism. In the mid-1980s, Dubac returned to his dramatic roots when he was chosen to study with a select group of actors under the tutelage of the great Sanford Meisner. Upon completion, he secured work in films, sitcoms and daytime television, with his stand-up career taking a back seat. From there, he once again forged into new territory. In the early 1990s, he created his hit one-man comedy show The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron?, which has been touring worldwide ever since.
Dubac was last seen in Denver starring in The Male Intellect, which played the Denver Center's Ricketson Theatre in 1999. The Denver Post declared: "Dubac's wit, writing and acting makes this a don't-miss night at the theatre." Dubac has been called "fold-up and fall-down funny" (Cleveland Plain Dealer) and "talented, entertaining and very funny!" (Boston Globe.) His one-man productions have been called "the kind of indisputably riotous show that sets off regular explosions of laughter" (Miami Herald).
Robert Dubac belongs to that rare breed of monologists, using words, characters and humor to create a show that may be hard to categorize but effortless to enjoy. If you like your satire served up with a clever intelligent edge; if you want to hear a voice that speaks as though it originated from inside of your own frustrated head; if you are tired of adolescent comedy generated by the mediocrity of television; don't miss Robert Dubac's FREE RANGE THINKING. It's comedy on steroids. Think your funny bone can handle it?
