OUR TOWN Joins Theatre Aspen's 35th Anniversary Slate Image

Jed Bernstein, Producing Director of Theatre Aspen, announced today that the Pulitzer Prize winning play Our Town will be the second production in the 2018 summer season. Broadway writer/director/actor Hunter Foster will join Theatre Aspen for his first summer as the play's director.

Written in 1936 by Thornton Wilder, many consider Our Town to be one of the greatest of all American plays.

Set in the fictional small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, Our Town portrays the lives, loves, and losses of everyday Americans and celebrates the wonder and majesty of everyday life. A cast of 15 - the largest for a Theatre Aspen play in over a decade - will portray the past, present, and future of the entire community.

Bernstein commented, "We think Our Town will make a very worthy companion piece to our opening production, Ragtime. Our town-Aspen that is-has much in common with the tight-knit and picturesque community of Grover's Corners."

All Theatre Aspen productions take place in the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park. The organization hopes to share news about its third summer production in the next few weeks. Passes and tickets to Ragtime and Our Town will be available for purchase in April 2018.

For the past 34 years, Theatre Aspen has been rekindling a sense of discovery in audiences who live in and visit the Roaring Fork Valley by producing big theatre in a small space with intimate storytelling. Tomorrow's theatre artists and enthusiasts grow and learn in our year-round education programs, and we expand the American theatre canon by supporting the creation of new works. The 35th anniversary season promises even more ambitious and excellent theatre right in the heart of Aspen.
