Colorado Springs FAC Youth Rep Program Presents AS THOUSANDS CHEER, 8/2-5

By:

The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center presents As Thousands Cheer, a Moss Hart/Irving Berlin collaboration, designed and performed by the students of the FAC's Youth Rep program. Performances dates are Aug. 2-5.

Considered a masterpiece of that specialized genre known as the topical revue, As Thousands Cheer is the Depression era version of Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show. Moss Hart's sketches are sharp, witty and hilarious and Irving Berlin's songs range from wry to satiric to poignant. Their inspiration? The newspaper headlines of the day, from affairs to society photos and advice to the lovelorn; even comic strips and the weather report were fair game!

The show premiered on Broadway in 1933 and ran for more than 400 performances. As Thousands Cheer inspired some of Hart's best solo work as a comedy writer and afforded Berlin the opportunity to pen some of his greatest musical gems, including Easter Parade and Heat Wave.

The FAC's Youth Rep program, currently in its 13th year, is one of the only conservatory-based theatre programs for high school students – ages 14-18 – in the country and is the only professional training program for student actors and technicians in the Pikes Peak Region. This year's workshops began on July 2.

Taught by a faculty which includes over a dozen professional theatre artists, the students in the program meet eight hours a day for five weeks and are introduced to all elements of the theatre including vocal performance, speech, audition/monologue work, various styles of dance, clowning, fight choreography, make-up and costume design, art history, etc.

PERFORMANCES: Thursday – Saturday, Aug. 2-4 | 7p; Sunday, August 5 | 2p TICKETS: $10 | $5 for children ages 12 and under. BUY ONLINE or call the Box Office at 710.634.5583.
