BWW Reviews: Experience the Phenomenal Musicianship that is Equinox Theatre's COMPANY!

By:

Equinox Theatre Company presents Sondheim's classic relationship musical, COMPANY (Book by George Furth, Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim) playing now through July 19th at the Bug Theatre. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. Through a series of hilarious vignettes, we are introduced to "those good and crazy people," his married friends, as Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life.

"The unexamined life is not worth living!"

Over the past several years I have been a loyal supporter and patron of the diverse talent that is Equinox Theatre. They have given their audiences a wide array of unique shows; some powerful and dramatic, others campy and fun, and a couple that needed a bit of improvement. I am proud to say that COMPANY is their finest production to date and a spectacular show of sensational talent that is a highlight of this summer season and should not be missed! This is my favorite Stephen Sondheim musical and his best work (in my humble opinion). This amazing ensemble elevated this classic with their thoughtful and passionate portrayals of their roles. The only two minor alterations that I observed during this fantastic show would be to tighten up the choreography a little bit (but that is easily forgiven with those fierce voices and memorable performances); and have an alternate, yet gratifying ending. Since she has already won over our hearts with Another Hundred People, I have always secretly wished that the final scene featured Bobby blowing out his birthday candles with Marta. This small change would bring a satisfying smile to all the audiences faces and leave them departing with a sense of hope. Outstanding musical numbers include - Company, The Little Things You do Together, You Could Drive a Person Crazy, Another Hundred People, Getting Married Today, Side by Side by Side, The Ladies Who Lunch, and Being Alive.

Remember - That's what it's really about -COMPANY! !! Believe me, this is one show this summer that you do not want to miss! Equinox Theatre's COMPANY is mesmerizing audiences now through July 19 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM. Performances will be at The Bug Theatre: 3654 Navajo Street in Denver and tickets are available online at www.EquinoxTheatreDenver.com or by calling 720-984-0781.
