Hartford Opera Theater to present 6th annual New in November
Hartford, CT (October 24, 2015) – Hartford Opera Theater, Inc. (HOT) will present the 6th annual New in November on Sunday, November 15, 2015 - 7:00PM at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford, CT.
Founded in 2010, Hartford Opera Theater provides “opera for everyone” by offering quality, innovative, and affordable productions in the heart of Hartford. HOT continues to present the only fully staged opera with orchestra in Hartford. The company’s New in November festival was established in 2010 with a two fold mission: to seek out and encourage contemporary opera composers and to create an opportunity for the community to experience performances of these new works. Each year, a committee reviews a competitive pool of submissions from around the world and selects six 10-minute operas to create an evening of short operatic vignettes. The preparation for New in November is reminiscent of a 24-hour play festival in that the operas are brought from “page to stage” in a condensed and intense period of time. HOT is extremely proud of New in November and feels that it truly exemplifies their motto, “Opera for Everyone”.
This year’s New in November features the work of composers Beth Wiemann (Until the War is Over - libretto by Jennifer Moxley), David Wolfson (Maya’s Ark - libretto by composer), Marc Hoffeditz (Prescription - libretto by composer), Peter Michael von der Nahmer (Ho!Ho!Ho! - libretto by Kate Chadwick), Nkeiru Okoye (We’ve Got Our Eye on You - libretto by David Cote), and Connecticut’s own Ellen Gilson Voth (Owl Moon - libretto by Jane Yolen).
The performance will be held Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 7-9PM (EST) at the Charter Oak Cultural Center, 21 Charter Oak Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106. Tickets are $12-$27 and can be purchased by visiting www.hartfordoperatheater.com or at the door.
