Long Wharf Theatre's Eric Ting Wins 2013 Obie Award for WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A PRESENTATION...
Long Wharf Theatre Associate Artistic Director Eric Ting won an Obie Award last night for his direction of We Are Proud To Present A Presentation ... by Jackie Sibblies Drury at Soho Rep in New York.
The Obies, given to acknowledge achievement Off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway, were judged by a committee that included Chairman Michael Feingold, Alexis Soloski as secretary, and the following guest judges: Obie Award-winning playwright Erin Courtney; director-performer Mia Katigbak, Co-Founder of NAATCO; critic and Theater magazine editor Tom Sellar; and Obie Award-winning director Leigh Silverman. The award was given Monday night.
The play, staged Off-Broadway from November 7 through December 16, 2012, tell the story of an ensemble of American actors that come together to rehearse a play about the little-known first genocide of the 20th century, with shattering results.
Ting's accomplishment marks the second lauded Off-Broadway production this season with a Long Wharf Theatre connection.
Long Wharf Theatre's production of My Name is Asher Lev, adapted by Aaron Posner, directed by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein, was honored by the Outer Critics Circle. The play was recognized with two Outer Critics Circle Awards - Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play and the John Gassner Award, given to an American play, preferably by a new playwright.
