Hong Kong Village Holds Da Jiao Festival Once Every Decade

According to Newsday, a village in Hong Kong held their rare once-in-a-decade festival recently.

The village of Lam Tsuen sets the scene for the festival, also known as Da Jiao, where people gather to give thanks to Taoist deities and pray for peace.

A massive temporary bamboo theatre is erected specifically for this festival, and traditional Cantonese Opera performances are housed within it. Other highlights of the festival include lion dances, vegetarian feasts, and the burning of life-sized paper animals, such as horses, for luck.

This event is so popular that it brings home villagers who have emigrated overseas.
