The New York Times writes that Broadway Worldwide, the company behind movie theater screenings of Broadway's MEMPHIS, is partnering with Chinese media company New Sun Light to film and distribute two to four musicals, captured live in HD, each year.

"Even though it's more costly to do, it is still representing the thing that Broadway is known for throughout the world," Broadway Worldwide chief executive Bruce Brandwen told the Times.

The shows will screen in movie theaters, arts centers and on university campuses, plus on TV and around the web and other streaming platforms.

Billionaire business tycoon Bruno Wu, who oversees Sun New Light, will be in charge of the Asian market.

No word yet on a timeline or which musicals will be broadcast.
