The Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series Presents WINTRY MIX/PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL

The Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series presents two different lineups of innovative theater makers, choreographers and musicians for the second installment of its WINTRY MIX/PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL, a curated sampler of new works of performing arts. Emerging and established regional artists and performers known for their artistic daring will show their latest creations at the Hepburn Teaching Theater stage in Goodhart Hall, Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 at 8:00 p.m.

Smaller scale, scruffier, and more wild than the usual Series headliners, each night features a different headliner joined by an array of other performers, includes free snacks and drinks, and ends with an extended musical set/dance party for everyone. Two different programs of 12-minutes-max showings draws from the vibrant regional performing arts community and gleefully crosses the artistic boundaries of theater, dance, video and music.

"It's exciting for us to offer this biennial, cabaret-like show where artists from Philly and further afield present cutting-edge works, mixing and merging genres in innovative ways," says Performing Arts Series Coordinator Lisa Kraus.

Highlights include a film screening of Byron Karabatsos's A Drag Queen for Kids, which follows Dito Van Reigersberg and his alter ego, Martha Graham Cracker, as they prepare for and perform their kids' show Martha Graham Cracker Meets Dr. Seuss; the band Japanese Breakfast whose first album (April 2016) was called "a stunning debut" by Rolling Stone; the sex-ed burlesque of Chlamydia dell'Arte; the Philly-based performance art duo Chelsea and Magda whose breakthrough show Shame Symposium debuted in 2016 at FringeArts; the continually compelling choreographer David Brick of Headlong; and Cynthia Hopkins, the writer-composer, multi-instrumentalist performance artist known for her ground breaking creations of multimedia performance.

The 2016-17 Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Since 1984 the Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series has presented great artists and performances to audiences in the Philadelphia area, creating an environment that recognizes and celebrates the value of the arts.
