Reading Theater Project to Stage Reading and Discussion of Sue Lange's Play Trilogy, POTTY MOUTH, 3/29
The Reading Theater Project will present a staged play reading and discussion of Sue Lange's play trilogy, Potty Mouth. The reading will take place at the TEA Factory at 580 Willow Street, Reading, PA 19602 on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 8pm. Tickets are $10.
All three short plays take place in a bathroom: two senior girls discuss their future plans in a high school bathroom stall, three business women discuss the glass ceiling and possible promotion in their office women's room, and a husband and wife discuss business and retirement in their home bathroom.
"I liked the idea of important conversations happening in bathrooms," says playwright, Sue Lange. "My three one-acts are not related plot-wise but they do represent three moments of change and possible crisis in any person's life: the movement from high school to college; promotion at work; retirement."
The actors, Teresa Nutter, Alexandria Shermot, Katie Urich, Angela Rains, Julia Smith, Jane Ney, Joel Lesher, and Chelsea Gonsalves, are directed by Christine Cieplinski. Actors will have some stage movement, but will read from the script. After the readings, the audience will be invited to share reflections on the play, ask questions, and talk with the playwright about the process and product of her work.
As part of their mission, the Reading Theater Project is committed to creating new theater in Berks County. Play readings, with a focus on local writers, are one of the ways they achieve this. A public reading is a useful developmental step in a playwright's process, allowing them to hear and see the new play before a full production, where script changes can be expensive or impossible.
The Reading Theater Project is multigenerational collective of performing artists who create new theater in Reading, PA. Since 2003, Reading Theater Project has given local professional performing artists an artistic home, with opportunities for collaboration, development, showcasing, and personal growth.
