DreamWrights Presents THE REMEMBERER, Now thru 8/17

DreamWrights' cast will perform The Rememberer, a true story shared amongst Native Americans nationwide, today, Aug. 8 - Aug. 17. This unique script has provided the opportunity for both parents and their children to have a role in the performances; the cast includes all ages ranging from 7 to 50. All actors have embraced a completely different culture, and some will speak the Indian language as it was known in 1911.

The Rememberer Show Dates and Times:

· August 8 at 6:30 p.m.

· August 9 at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

· August 10 at 2:30 p.m.

· August 15 at 6:30 p.m.

· August 16 at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

· August 17 at 2:30 p.m.

The Rememberer tells the true story, from the year 1911, of a young Squaxin Indian girl, Joyce Cheeka, who was forcibly taken from her family and sent to a government boarding school. Joyce Cheeka serves as her tribe's rememberer, the one to pass on the stories, history and wisdom of her people. When she is forcibly removed from the tribe and placed in a white boarding school, she discovers that the lessons of the white man seek to destroy her heritage. She must find a way to live among these people, while preserving the honor and memories of her own people.

DreamWrights' cast has learned to speak in Southern Lushootseed, the Indian language of the Squaxin. While very difficult to learn and speak, the cast members have helped each other and put forth a lot of effort to prepare for these performances.

"Tracking down the Indian language was very difficult; learning it was even harder," said Tim Storey, director. "However, my cast has been amazing and has worked very hard to do honor to the language and to the Squaxin people."

Storey, 28, has been involved in theatre productions since he was 7 years old. With more than 50 productions on his resume, The Rememberer marks his 25th production specifically with DreamWrights. He is honored to be guest directing such a unique script for both the cast to learn and the audience to enjoy.

"The Rememberer is an important story for people to know about and truly understand," said Storey. "It's about accepting people of all cultures and sharing with others of different backgrounds. It's a beautifully moving storyline."

This production is unlike any other performed at DreamWrights before; both the script and the stage set-up are unique.
