Happy Weekend, everyone!  My annual winter cold decided to visit this past week, so, unfortunately, I didn't make it out to ANY shows (I know, I can hardly believe it myself)!  So, in lieu of writing about what I saw (pretty much a whole lot of "Cheers" and "Iron Chef America"), I'm going to chime in with my recommendations for the upcoming week!

This week in NYC Nightlife...

Sunday, January 17th:

Michael Winther & Dan Tepfer: Songs and Variations at The Metropolitan Room.  Acclaimed singer/actor Michael Winther and dynamic jazz pianist Dan Tepfer have teamed up to present a show full of well-loved standards and contemporary pop tunes that "explore the intersection between jazz improvisation, musical theatre, and popular music."  Sounds like a surefire winner to me!  Show starts at 7 p.m., call (212) 206-0440 for reservations.  They'll also be back on Monday, January 18th at 9:30 p.m.

Daryl Glenn: Daryl Sings Steve (Songs by Sondheim), 8:30 p.m. at Feinstein's at Loews Regecy.  No stranger to the cabaret community, Daryl (who was part of the team behind last year's multi-award winning show, Nashville), takes a solo turn in the spotlight at the famed NYC club.  Reservations: (212) 339-4095

Tony DeSare: One of my favorites is back at the swanky Carlyle Hotel, lending his smooth voice and incredible piano playing to well-loved standards, jazzy pop, and some fabulous original tunes.  He'll be there between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m. - stop by for a set or three!

Monday, January 18th

Cast Party at Birdland.  Hosted by Jim Caruso, this fantastic open mic runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.  Be sure to arrive early to sign up if you plan to sing!

Tuesday, January 19th:

Shaynee Rainbolt Quintet at Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar.  2-time MAC Award winning vocalist Shaynee Rainbolt is heading uptown with a smokin' 5-piece band to celebrate her birthday with song!  Sets are at 7:30 & 9:00 p.m., call (212) 579-0222 for reservations!

Johnny Rodgers & the Johnny Rodgers Band at Iridium Jazz Club.  Multi-award winning singer/songwriter/pianist Johnny Rodgers is bringing his golden pipes and fabulous song stylings to the legendary Times Square jazz club.  Sets are at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., call (212) 582-2121 for reservations.

Wednesday, January 20th:

Wednesday Night at the Iguana with hosts Richard Skipper and Dana Lorge.  This weekly singers' showcase is always a great way to spend a Wednesday evening!  This week's special guests include Douglas Davidian, D'yan Forrest, Greta Heron, Catt John, Roger Anthony Mapes and Alegra Themmen.  Show runs from 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. and reservations can be made by calling (212) 765-5454.

Jay Leonhart at The Metropolitan Room.  Renowned bassist and composer Jay Leonhart takes center stage in this show with music by the likes of Mose Alison, Dave Frishberg, Bob Dorough, and Mr. Leonhart himself!  Show is at 9:45 p.m., call (212) 206-0440 for reservations

Thursday, January 21st:

Carol McCann at The Metropolitan Room.   Acclaimed singer/songwriter Carol McCann returns to The Metropolitan Room with a sneak peek of her new musical, "The Goddess In My Building."  Show is at 7:30 p.m., call (212) 206-0440 for reservations!

Friday, January 22nd:

Oron Stenesh in The Big 3-0 at The Duplex.  A unique performer who mixes song, dance, poetry, and political satire in his work, Mr. Stenesh is sure to put on an entertaining show in honor of his "big" birthday!  Show starts at 7 p.m., reservations can be made by calling (212) 255-5438

That's about all I've got for this week, but check back for a new column next week!
