FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW presents Sharon McNight in "RED HOT MAMA", The Sophie Tucker Songbook, for ONE NIGHT ONLY on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm. RED HOT MAMA is the story of the first lady of show business, the last of the Red Hot Mamas, Sophie Tucker, whose remarkable career spanned sixty years. It contains the music and history of burlesque, vaudeville, Broadway and Los Vegas in a critically acclaimed one-woman musical biography of the entertainment legend. The show takes place in the Latin Quarter, New York's premiere supper club of the 40's and 50's owned by Lou Walters, Barbara Walter's father.

RED HOT MAMA, written by and starring Sharon McNight features over a dozen songs introduced and made famous by Tucker, i.e. 'My Yiddishe Mama', 'Darktown Strutters Ball', 'It All Depends On You'. The composers include the Gershwin Brothers, Cole Porter, Billy Rose, and Henderson, DeSylva & Brown. The show began in concert at Rainbow and Stars in association with ASCAP and developed into a theatrical presentation which ran Off-Broadway at the York Theatre.

This concert version won the BroadwayWorld.com award in 2014.

Ian Herman will play the musical arrangements by Broadway composer and Emmy winner Stan Freeman.

Sharon McNight in "RED HOT MAMA" plays Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West Street) on Thursday, April 18, at 7:00 pm There is a

$40-80 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum.

Sharon McNight began her career in San Francisco, and made her Broadway debut in 1989 in "Starmites", creating the role of Diva. She received a Tony Award nomination as 'Best Leading Actress in a Musical' for her performance, and is the recipient of the coveted Theatre World Award for 'Outstanding Broadway Debut' and a Hirschfeld drawing of her character. She has six solo recordings to her credit, and has played from Moose Hall to Carnegie Hall, from Los Angeles to Berlin. She has won five San Francisco Gold awards, a Bistro award, a New York Nightlife award for Musical Comedy, and a MAC Lifetime Achievement award for her forty years of performances. This vocal chameleon ranges from blues to Broadway to Mae West to Glinda the Good Witch. The greatest day of her life was the day she quit smoking.
