Many New York cabaret performers have tackled the songbook of the iconic Joni Mitchell, but few have put the kind of transformative twist on it the way Remy Block did when she performed On a Lonely Road: Travelin' with Joni between 2014-2015 at Don't Tell Mama and The Duplex. Block's tribute to the legendary pop singer/songwriter was a personal exploration of a young woman's life as a seeker, a lover, and an artist, with Mitchell's tunes serving as the "sacred text and rough guide" for her journey. Cabaret show reviewers raved about Remy's take on Joni's songs:

"Striking blond Remy Block took the audience on a sort of 'journey of the mind,' weaving Joni Mitchell's magnificent lyrics and melody lines with Block's own hypnotic storytelling skills. The results were often mesmerizing. Block vocally handled Mitchell's melodious lyrical lines with ease and never sounded forced . . ." -BroadwayWorld.com

"Block's strong point, however, is her voice. It is rich and powerful, with a range that easily handles Joni Mitchell's repertoire." -TheaterPizzazz.com

Now, Remy Block is bringing a revised version of On a Lonely Road: Travelin' with Joni to PANGEA (178 2nd Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets) on November 7 at 9:30 pm and December 8 at 7 pm. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door (cash only) with a $20 food/drink minimum. For reservations, go here.

With her Musical Director Gregory Toroian on piano, joined by Steve Millhouse on bass and Ron Tierno on drums, Remy will further explore Joni Mitchell's jazz leanings, updating the song set to allow for a more complex and sophisticated musical experience to mirror the complicated emotions of this uniquely feminine artistic journey. Through Mitchell's classic songs-which she discovered while in her early 20s-Remy examines her own iconoclastic path from traditional Dallas girl to the unconventional woman she is today living in Brooklyn; still seeking, searching, and reflecting on what it means to live a meaningful and creative life. This show--directed by Raquel Cion--weaves Mitchell's lyrics and Block's personal narratives into a hypnotic spell, taking the audience to the underworld of the unconscious and inside the deep urges and longings hidden beneath the surface of us all; the tension between the need to connect and the desire for freedom.

Remy Block is a Texas native who has lived in New York since 1999 and performs in NYC and the surrounding area as a solo cabaret artist and a member of the Rock 'n Roll music collective Murderers' Row. She's also the lead singer, writes the songs, and plays accordion in her band Rembert and the Basic Goodness. Remy is also a budding novelist and writes cabaret reviews and features for BroadwayWorld.com.
