Photo Flash: T. Oliver Reid and Carly Hughes Bring Harlem to Birdland
The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present Broadway/cabaret star T. Oliver Reid in his Birdland concert debut on Monday, February 8, with DROP ME OFF IN HARLEM. A portion of proceeds went to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. BroadwayWorld has photos from the concert below!
The singer and Broadway hoofer T. Oliver Reid took his audience on a free-wheeling ride up to Harlem circa 1934 in his Bistro Award-winning show DROP ME OFF IN HARLEM. In this club-hopping journey into the sultry demi-monde of Harlem jazz clubs andspeakeasies, Reid propels us into a night of uptown enchantment using his unique arsenal of talents. Equal parts actor-singer,showman and social observer, Reid's helium light renditions of songs by Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, and Andy Razaf (amongothers) conjure up deep-rooted memories of jazzin' and boozin' we didn't even know we had. Music director/pianist Lawrence Yurman led a band that included Damien Bassman, Ray Kilday, Trevor Neumann, Kevin Bryan, and Andrew Gutauskas. The Broadway at Birdland concert series takes place every Monday on the stage of the historic venue, located in the heart of Manhattan's theater district.
