Photo Flash: Chita Rivera and Stephanie J. Block Celebrate Robert Creighton's 54 Below Debut
Broadway quintuple threat Creighton just concluded his critically lauded role of Durdles/Nick Cricker in the Roundabout Theater Company's production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Studio 54. Creighton's role as the often inebriated, scheming Durdles directly followed his yearlong roles as the Purser, and as Joel Grey's understudy for the character, Moonface Martin, in the Roundabout Theater Company's Broadway revival of Anything Goes. A native of Canada, Creighton spent two years with the New York City Opera before Broadway welcomed him in 2003 with a role in Jackie Mason's Laughing Room Only. Since then, in addition to Drood and Anything Goes, he has appeared in Chicago (Amos), Lion King (Timon), The Little Mermaid (Chef Louis), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Creighton's debut CD, also titled Ain't We Got Fun! was released in 2012 on LML Music. Produced by Georgia Stitt, it was critically lauded and had a distinctly vintage sound, complete with touches like a Barbershop Quartet on one number, kazoo, and even a skilled and wistful "lip trumpet" solo from the singer himself.
Creighton is an award-winning writer for his original show - CAGNEY! - co-authored with Peter Colley and Christopher McGovern. The musical had its World Premiere at Florida Stage in March 2009, and went on to win the prestigious Carbonell Award for Best New Work. CAGNEY! has had several successful runs in the U.S. and Canada. An Off-Broadway run is currently in development for later this season.
