Met Room Welcomes A Tribute to Dorothy Fields 5/11, 5/12

Julie Budd makes her Metropolitan Room debut in the world premiere of "A Tribute to Dorothy Fields," her salute to one of the female pillars of American songwriting in the 20th century. Budd who has appeared on major concert stages around the world, fields a four-piece band led by her music director Herb Bernstein on piano. "A Tribute to Dorothy Fields" plays two nights only, Wednesday May 11 and Thursday May 12, both at 7pm.

In a career that began when she was a wee little bud, Budd has co-starred with Frank Sinatra, Carol Burnett, Liberace, and frequently with Marvin Hamlisch. A favorite of Merv Griffin, who called her the "Mini Girl with Maxi Voice," Budd appeared on more than 100 Merv Griffin broadcasts, starting from when she was 12 years old. Her concerts and one-woman shows have been produced at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, The London Palladium, Tel Aviv's Israel Performing Arts Center, and numerous venues in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. As an actress Budd has appeared on television and in feature films. Her most recent screen credit is "Two Lovers" with Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow. Her most recent album is the highly acclaimed "The New Classics."

Fields, a trailblazer in a world dominated by men, wrote lyrics with, among others, Jerome Kern, Cy Coleman, Jimmy McHugh and the Gershwins. She wrote countless hits between the years1928 until her death in 1974. Among her Broadway shows are "Sweet Charity," "Two for the Seesaw," and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." With her brother Herbert, she wrote the book of "Annie Get Your Gun." Her classic "The Way You Look Tonight" won the Academy Award for Best Song in 1935.

Besides Bernstein on piano, the show's musical personnel includes Tom Hubbard on bass, Ken Hassler on drums and Art Weiss on synthesizer.
