MAN IN THE LONG BLACK COAT Returns to the Metropolitan Room Apr. 10-28
Barb Jungr's acclaimed all-Bob Dylan show, "Man in the Long Black Coat," returns to the Metropolitan Room for an expanded three-week run from April 10 to 28. "Man in the Long Black Coat," which premiered in October was also chosen as Time Out NY's #1 top live cabaret act for 2011.
Best-known for her deconstructions of songs by American rockers, Jungr has been attracting growing international attention for boldly adding new names to the Great American Songbook, names like Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, David Byrne, Neil Diamond, Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. And Bob Dylan. By stripping these songwriters' of their recorded accoutrements, the British singer lays them bare, proving that many of these rockers are not a breed apart from predecessors like Gershwin, Kern, Mercer and Berlin.
Though she's been closely identified with his music since her first Dylan album, "Every Grain of Sand" (Linn Records, 2002), this is Jungr's first live show in New York devoted entirely to Dylan.
"Man in the Long Black Coat" performs a total of 15 times: Tues-Fri April 10, 11, 12, 13, all at 7pm; Sat April 14 at 9:30; Tues-Fri April 17, 18, 19, 20, all at 7pm; Sat April 21 at 9:30pm; Tues-Fri April 24, 25, 26, 27, all at 7pm; Sat April 28 at 9:30pm. The music charge is $25, plus a two-drink minimum.
The Nightlife and Bistro Award-winning Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, celebrates its sixth anniversary in May. For reservations call 212/206-0440 or to order online visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
