Kim Smith Brings MISFIT To The Beechman Theater 3/2, 3/9, 3/16

Kim Smith, the acclaimed international performer called "all decadence and sly appeal" by Back Stage, has announced the debut of "Misfit," his special new show with three performances at The Laurie Beechman Theatre on March 2, 9 and 16 at 7:00 PM.

Singing in German, French and English, Mr. Smith reinterprets works by Weimar-era composers, and modern-day artists alike, including Friedrich Hollaender, Björk, The Supremes, Kylie Minogue, Hanns Eisler, and myriad glittering others in conjuring a contemporary vision of the decadence and decay of 1920's Berlin. Out to proves that misfits have more fun, Smith mischievously leads the audience through an evening of disfigured pop and glimmering period treasures. "Misfit" is directed by Christian Coulson; Smith is joined by Music Director Jerry Steichen on piano.

Australian Kim Smith is an award winning cabaret???? artist known for his Weimar-inspired shows that juxtapose authentic musical material with stylistic interpretations on current popular songs. The Adelaide Advertiser called him an "utterly engaging performer, polished to perfection but still wickedly dirty when the moment calls for it." New York's Nitelife Exchange hailed his show as an "unsettling performance you cannot stop watching, mesmerizing both to watch and to listen to."

His celebrated show Morphium - also directed by Christian Coulson - was performed in New York at the Neue Galerie's Cafe Sabarsky and Joe's Pub at The Public Theater and a sold out-run at the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and also toured twice to Melbourne in Australia. His 2008 debut show Johnny Come Lately, directed by Karen Kohler, premiered at Don't Tell Mama in New York and then transferred to the Duo Theatre at DMC.

Previous shows include Quietly Kim Smith, Kim Smith Is Madly Adored and Jungle Paradise (which headlined the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2007). In 2009, Smith was presented the Ira Eaker Back Stage magazine Bistro Award for outstanding performer on the rise, honored alongside legends Liza Minnelli and Charles Aznavour, and was nominated for both 2009 and 2010 MAC Awards in the Outstanding Male Vocalist category. He is also a recipient of the American Australian Association's Dame Joan Sutherland Award for aspiring artists, and is a member of the Kabarett Kollektif, a troupe of New York-based artists dedicated to preserving the European cabaret tradition.

Smith has headlined Earl Dax's Weimar New York and Tingel Tangel Club, as well as Floating Kabarett at Galapagos Arts Space in DUMBO. Other theatrical credits include Merrily We Roll Along (Charlie Kringas), The World Goes ‘Round (Redroom Theatre), and the New York premiere of Jude, a new British musical after Hardy's Jude The Obscure (as Philotson).
