Joanna Strand Returns to New York with FLY TRANSATLANTIC at Feinstein's, 12/5

By:

Feinstein's (540 Park Avenue, 61 Street) has announced the swift return to New York of London's fast- rising West End and cabaret singer Joanna Strand, in "Fly Transatlantic". This is her beautifully crafted musical journey through songs with roots both sides of the Atlantic. The performance is Wednesday 5 December at 10.30p.m. There is a $20 cover charge and a 1-drink minimum requirement. For reservations, call 212-339-4095 or visit feinsteinsattheregency.com.

It isn't only Bono who has recently crashed Jim Caruso's and Billy Stritch's Sunday night at The Carlyle! The storm strandEd English singer Joanna Strand's last minute Carlyle appearance has lead to her being snapped up by New York's Feinstein's at the Loews Regency- to share a night with Michael Feinstein on 5 December 2012.

When The Metropolitan Room closed its doors on Miss Strand to brace itself for Sandy's attack, she was graciously rescued by Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch who invited her to make an impromptu appearance at The Carlyle's Bemelman's bar. She sang two sets, and brought the house down with her stunning performance of refreshingly original arrangements of some beautifully selected songs.

A mishap turned into a great gift to everyone who sought shelter from the storm at The Bemelman's Bar including the audience and the band who travelled from London with Miss Strand. And as a result of the rapturous reception she received there and the news of her great talent and intriguing show, she has been invited to appear at Feinstein's before it closes its doors on 31 December.

On a journey across the Atlantic Ocean, just as Kathy followed Paul Simon, Joanna Strand travels from her native England to the USA on a voyage of love, discovery and yearning to celebrate the songs of composers who have ventured across the pond. "Flying Transatlantic" includes the musical collaborations of Bacharach and Costello, Legrand and the Bergman's, as well as songs by travelers including Vernon Duke, Sergio Mendes and Francis Poulenc, alongside those Americans who lost their hearts in England – Jerome Kern and Paul Simon. Ms. Strand will be supported by a band led by her musical director John Bailey.

Strand recently appeared as Emma in Jekyll and Hyde at London's The Union Theatre to great critical acclaim and as Sharon Graham in the Broadway transfer of Terrence McNally's Master Class at the Vaudeville Theatre. She also enjoyed recently playing Madame Giry in Phantom of the Opera, at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. She has appeared as Dolly in Hello Dolly, and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance with WLO, as well as appearing in numerous theatres and opera houses including Bath Theatre Royal, Garsington Opera, Opera Grange Park and Opera Holland Park. Ms. Strand gave the European premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus and Euridice at the Tete-a-Tete Festival at The Riverside Studios, Hammersmith last summer. Joanna made her jazz debut premiering some of the Blake settings by English jazz composer Michael Garrick with the Royal Academy Big Band while studying classical voice at the Royal Academy of Music.
