Alto Productions invites you to Hildegard of Bingen and the Living Light, directed and designed by Erv Raible, opening April 9th. In this 75-minute one-woman show, international mezzo soprano Linn Maxwell embodies the extraordinary life of 12th century German prophetess, healer, and composer, Hildegard of Bingen. Way ahead of her time and in a male-dominated world, Hildegard challenged the established authority of the Church, both philosophically and musically.

Accompanying herself on authentic medieval instruments including psaltery, organistrum and harp, Linn performs seven of Hildegard's original songs, and through the mystic's actual letters and writings transports us to the turbulent times of the Crusades in Western Europe. Hildegard's timeless universal message of spiritual truth, holistic healing and caring for the earth is more urgent today than ever. She continues to sing through Linn Maxwell's Hildegard of Bingen and the Living Light.

Linn Maxwell has sung opera and concerts throughout the U.S. and in 25 foreign countries. Her many solo credits include San Francisco Opera, Netherlands Opera, Hungarian State Opera, symphonies of Chicago, Toronto, Mexico City. She also includes cabaret and one-woman shows in her performing life. She performed her one-woman musical, "Lilli Marlene," off-Broadway at the Abingdon Theatre in New York in 2008, to critical acclaim.

Erv Raible is the executive director of Cabaret and Concert Artists International and executive/artistic director of the International Cabaret Conference at Yale University. He has owned the legendary New York cabaret venues, Eighty- Eights, Brandy's, Don't Tell Mama and The Duplex, and through these venues has presented over 4,000 performers to the public.
