Celebration of Singer-Songwriter Leonard Cohen Comes To New York City
Australian music collective, ali & the thieves tour their critically acclaimed narrative concert, Leonard Cohen KOANS, across the USA and Canada this summer. The tour reaches New York City on Sunday July 1st at The Duplex Cabaret Theater with Ali Hughes singing lead vocals supported by MD Daryl Wallis, Adam Armstrong on bass and Greg Joseph on drums.
Headlining internationally in venues including the iconic Sydney Opera House, New York's Le Poisson Rouge and Dublin's Liberty Hall, ali & the thieves have featured at the Sydney and New York International Fringe Festivals and headlined the International Leonard Cohen Fan Festival.
Beautiful lead vocalist, Ali Hughes, renowned for her dynamic, passionate and sensuous voice, winds through this thoughtfully curated collection of Leonard Cohen's famous poetry, prose and song. As well as lesser known gems such as 'The Guests' and 'The Butcher', you will hear your Cohen favourites - the moving 'If It Be Your Will', his magnificent 'Chelsea Hotel #2', and the undeniable masterpiece 'Suzanne'.
Ali also tours and records as backing vocals with multi-award winning Canadian artist, Jane Siberry, who says "Ali's is one of my favourite voices."
Musically directed by pianist and composer Daryl Wallis, winner of prestigious Australian arts industry Green Room Award, Leonard Cohen KOANS moves from ethereal to full throttle in a heartbeat, and tips a hat to the icon's littleknown devotion to Zen Buddhism.
