Broadway's Best Helps Blake Allen Celebrate The Sherman Brothers Blake Allen, known for his innovative bridging of contemporary music and theater through composition, is committed to honoring and educating audiences about the music of America from the early-mid part of the 20th century through An Evening With... musical series. The Green Room 42 Presents: An Evening With... The Sherman Brothers, curated and orchestrated by Blake Allen is the third installment of this important series and will take place on July 20 at 9:30 p.m. inside the Times Square Yotel. By setting these celebrated works with notable contemporary voices through the "An Evening With..." series has become an important vehicle for musical preservation.

The evening will feature the songs from our childhoods, spanning The Sherman Brothers' legendary Oscar and Emmy winning careers, with beloved songs from "Mary Poppins" to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "It's a Small World (after all)," the melodies from the Disney Parks, the cartoon characters they helped bring to life, and unexpected mashups with a nostalgic flair. The cast will include Disney royalty Bret Shuford (Chitty...Bang; Beauty and the Beast; Little Mermaid) and Jelani Remy (The Lion King; Smokey Joe's Café) and Broadway icons Kristy Cates (Wicked; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Kate Loprest (Wicked; First Date; Hairspray). Backed by a nine-piece band, the evening will also welcome Disney alums Kerry Conte (Mary Poppins, White Christmas) and Jack Scott (Newsies) and feature James Crichton (Peter and the Starcatcher; Jasper in a Deadland), Emily Croft (We Have Apples); Josh Daniel (Book of Mormon), Christine de Frece (It Should Been You), Spencer Glass (Wringer), Kristina Nicole Miller (Welcome), and Jordan Tyson (Sweetie; Folk Wandering).

"There is no better way to celebrate the night of my birthday than to honor the composers and music makers who so deeply define my own childhood," explains Allen. "I love The Sherman Brothers. Their music and legacy are iconic and forever immortalized in the living rooms of past and future generations with children enjoying the music they wrote for film. They wrote more motion-picture musical song scores than any other songwriting team in film history. Preserving their legacy, redefining the relevance, and celebrating the impact they had with today's artists, it will be an exciting evening to cross generations and genres in an impactful way."

Blake Allen will continue to present the works of the 20th century to preserve their impact on the music and artists of today throughout 2019, with Patti Page, Peggy Lee, Dionne Warwick, Doris Day and more already being cast.
