Coming to The Green Room 42, the hilarious, manic, and heartwarming musical spoof, Gutenberg! The Musical! An overwhelmingly enthusiastic pair of aspiring playwrights perform a backers' audition for their new project: a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor, Johann Gutenberg. Writers Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract; fulfilling their ill-advised, yet hearteningly sincere dreams.
With a book, music, and lyrics by Scott Brown and Anthony King, Gutenberg! The Musical! premiered off-Broadway in November 2006 starring Jeremy Shamos and Christopher Fitzgerald at 59E59 before a run at the Actors Playhouse. That production was nominated for Best Musical at the Lortel and Outer Critic's Circle Awards, as well as Best Book and Best Director of a Musical at the Drama Desk Awards. The concert features Bobby Conte Thornton (A Bronx Tale) and Alex Prakken (Newsies). The evening is produced and directed by Matt Redmond (DGRW Talent), choreographed by Kaitlyn Frank, and accompanied by Andrew Callahan. The one night only event will take place on Sunday November 11th at 9:30pm.
