Belinda Raisin's CONFESSIONS OF A CONTROL FREAK to Play Melbourne Cabaret Festival, July 2-4

By:

Feel better about yourself and witness someone way more messed up than you in one woman comedy cabaret Confessions of a Control Freak. Following rave reviews at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, former ballerina Belinda Raisin is now set to regale audiences at the Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Featuring ballet, yoga, rollerblades and quite a bit of wine, Raisin takes audiences on an hilarious yet poignant journey through her alter-ego Frances' quest for balance in an extremely busy life.

"Anyone, like me, who has felt the pressure to fit in with contemporary ideals or struggled to balance the career, the social life, the family life, the body, mind, health and fitness and find the time and money to do it all will definitely understand Frances' quest," Raisin said.

One thing is clear from the Adelaide season of Confessions - audiences and reviewers can definitely relate to Frances. For starters, there is her love of list-making. "It doesn't have to be in bullet point... to turn me on," she croons to the tune of Prince's 'Kiss'.

Raisin is building a reputation for a unique brand of quirky, heartfelt characters. The honesty of her performance in part comes from her own struggles with perfectionism, including past battles with anorexia and bulimia.

From 2 to 4 July, Confessions of a Control Freak will be showing at iconic Melbourne cabaret venue The Butterfly Club which recently relocated to the heart of Melbourne's CBD.

Raisin, who recently played the role of Melissa Castan in acclaimed telemovie Mabo, will be joined onstage by pianist, Jamie Teh. Totally blind since birth, Teh has "the best ears in the business," Raisin said.

Confessions of a Control Freak, written and performed by Belinda Raisin with musical director Jennifer Teh and pianist Jamie Teh at The Butterfly Club, 5 Carson Place, Melbourne: Tues 2 July @ 9:30pm; Wed 3 July @ 6:00pm; Thurs 4 July @ 7:00pm.

Tickets 2 July: Adults $15 / Concession $12 / Groups $12; 3&4 July: Adults $25 / Concession $23 / Groups $20. Purchase tickets online at http://thebutterflyclub.com/shows.
