By:
Amanda McBroom -- American international theater and cabaret performer and writer of the hit song, "The Rose" -- will return to 54 Below tonight, September 30th and October 1st at 7pm with her new show, UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, featuring unheard songs from her own songwriter's trunk, plus music by some of her favorite writers including Leonard Cohen, Judy Collins, Fran Landesman, John Bucchino, Jacques Brel and more.

In June, McBroom's, "Errol Flynn," written with Gordon Hunt about her father, the actor David Bruce, was featured on NPR's Songs We Love. In July, Conway Twitty's recording of "The Rose" was featured on the third episode of the current season of True Detective.

Her songs have been recorded by Leanne Rimes, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Anne Murray, Conway Twitty, Harry Belafonte, Betty Buckley, Stephanie Mills, The Manhattan Transfer and many more.

54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club is located at 254 West 54th Street, Cellar, between Broadway and 8th Avenue. Dropping in to join Amanda McBroom at 54 Below will be award-winning composer, John Bucchino, Broadway and concert artist, Karen Mason and award-winning actor-singer, George Ball, McBroom's husband and frequent co-star. The schedule for the guest appearances is subject to availability. Michele Brourman, McBroom's longtime collaborator, will serve as Musical Director and pianist with Jered Egan on bass.

McBroom's solo singing career was launched when she appeared to sing "The Rose" at the Golden Globes (she won), The Grammys, and on the Tonight Show. In 1980, she recorded a direct-to-disc album titled GROWING UP IN HOLLYWOOD TOWN for the prestigious vinyl audiophile label Sheffield Lab Recordings. GROWING UP IN HOLLYWOOD TOWN became an audiophile classic around the world and set a new standard for vinyl recording and hi fi stereo reproduction. Billboard called the LP a "stunning artistic success" and Amanda became "the queen of the high end" for the purity of her vocals and the emotional depth of her songs. Sheffield released a second McBroom direct-to-disc recording entitled WEST OF OZ in 1981. Both recordings were compiled and re-released as AMANDA by Sheffield in 1996. Other solo recordings include the CDs: Dreaming, Midnight Matinee, A Waiting Heart, Portraits, Live From Rainbow and Stars and Chanson.

McBroom starred in the New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and European productions of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, on Broadway in Seesaw, and in Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music and Mame. A musical based on her songs, Heartbeats, made its debut in 1989 in Los Angeles and the play has enjoyed over 15 regional theater productions around the U.S. Amanda's latest musical, A Woman of Will, made its Off-Broadway debut in 2005. She recently starred in Desert Cities at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, California.
