2G: SIXTEEN GOING ON SEVENTEEN Set for Joe's Pub Tonight

By:

Victor Maog, Artistic Director of Second Generation (2g), a theatre company that puts Asian-American stories on the world stage, announced today that over 30 multi-ethnic artists will be featured in 2G: SIXTEEN GOING ON SEVENTEEN, which will play Joe's Pub, 425 Lafayette Street, tonight, June 24, at 7pm. The event celebrates SECOND GENERATION (2g)'s 2012-13 season and introduces its commissioned writers.

Composer/lyricst Adam Gwon, playwright Anna Moench, and playwright Sung Rno & musician AaRon Jones will provide a sneak peek at their plays and musicals-in-progress. Mrinalini Kamath and Lolan Buhain Sevilla will also showcase work from 2g's Instant Vaudeville: Breaking Bamboo and Community Voices: The Next GenderAsian.

Adam Gwon was named one of "50 to Watch" by The Dramatist magazine and hailed "a promising newcomer to our talent-hungry musical theater" by The New York Times. His songs are sung by the likes of 5-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald on her albums and on PBS. This musical is Adam Gwon's personal journey in claiming his bi-racial identity.

Gwon states, ""Both sides of my family's heritage are defined by flight: my mom's father, a German Jew, fled his homeland during World War II; my dad's mother, the daughter of a political figure in Hong Kong, was forced to flee her home in the wake of the Communist revolution. Growing up, I heard these stories in pieces, trying my best to stitch together the narrative that led, somehow, from these epic journeys to a musical theater kid in the suburbs of Baltimore."

Sung Rno is an NEA/TCG Playwrighting Fellow, graduating from Harvard and Brown. AaRon Jones graduated from NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Anna Moench is a recent Jerome and Van Lier Fellow, as well as a member of The Public Theater's Emerging Writer's Group.

"Each of these brave artists are publicly taking on the very personal challenge of Asian-ness. It's going to be a very special night all for us. We're in one of the sexiest rooms in NYC - where some of the greatest talents in the world have performed - and we're going double or nothing," states Maog, who will directs the evening.

2G: SIXTEEN GOING ON SEVENTEEN, hosted by the ukulele-wielding Jen Kwok (Complex Magazine's "25 Funny People Who Should Get Their Own TV Shows"), will be joined by Alfredo Narciso (NYTW, Atlantic, The New Group), Jason Tam (A Chorus Line), Maria-Christina Oliveras (Public's Here Lies Love), Damon Daunno (Brief Encounter), Obie winners James Saito, Ching Valdes-Aran & Jojo Gonzalez, Broadway Barkada, Angel Desai (Company), Aisha Jackson, Bobby Foley, Eileen Rivera, David Ross, Elena Chang, Allison Buck, Jed Orlemann (The Assembled Parties), Eugene Oh and more. Ying Le produces with Liz Casasola and Lisa Chan.

Joe's Pub is located at 425 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10003 and reservations are available online at www.joespub.com or by calling 212-967-7555. Tickets are $12 (Please note there is a $12 food minimum or two drink minimum per person).
