Historically, Virginia has always stood at the forefront of the American agriculture industry. The agriculture industry alone has an economic impact of $55 billion annually and provides more than 357,000 jobs throughout the Commonwealth. According to a recent UVA study, agriculture and forestry, have a combined economic impact of more than $79 billion dollars, making those two industries the largest in the state, even larger than the government and military. It is facts and figures such as these, that make a program such as WVPT's Virginia Farming so vital to it's viewers.
