Tom Hanks Set to Adapt Larson's IN THE GARDEN OF BEASTS

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios and actor Tom Hanks have optioned the film rights to IN THE GARDEN OF BEASTS, the best selling non-fiction work by Erik Larson which was published in May. Hanks is reportedly interested in starring in the project as well.

The story follows the life of William Dodd, who served as US Ambassador to Berlin in 1933. His daughter, Martha, was an outgoing socialite who became romantically involved with a Gestapo official as well as a Russian spy. The book tells the story of how Dodd and his family gradually beame aware of the growing atrocities occuring throughout Germany during this time.

Another of Larson's book, 'The Devil and the White City', is currently in development. Leonardo DiCaprio and his Production Company, Appian Way are attached to the project.
