The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will explore how stunt artists utilize emerging technologies to bring previously impossible stunts to the screen in "Real to Reel: The Art of Action" on Friday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Hosted by stunt coordinator Garrett Warren, the evening will include clips from such films as "Iron Man 3," "Skyfall" and "Real Steel," live demonstrations, behind-the-scenes footage, and onstage conversations with some of the films' creative teams. Scheduled panelists include writer-director Shane Black, stunt coordinator Jeff Habberstad, visual effects supervisors Erik Nash and Christopher Townsend, animatronic supervisor John Rosengrant, and film editor Zach Staenberg. Moving image storytelling remains a fundamentally collaborative art form, and developments in science and technology continue to impact every aspect of the moviemaking process, including stunts. "Real to Reel" explores how stunt artists collaborate with creative teams and utilize emerging technologies to help create complex movie stunts that would have never before been possible. TransformersUsing scenes from films including "The Matrix" (1999), "Transformers" (2007), "Alice in Wonderland" (2010), "Real Steel" (2011), "Warrior" (2011), "Skyfall" (2012), "The Master" (2012) and "Iron Man 3" (2013), "Real to Reel" will illustrate how technology is expanding cinematic possibilities for stunt artists. The night will include live demonstrations, behind-the-scenes footage and conversations with some of the films' creative teams, who will discuss how scenes were created.
