Lazienki Palace This palace is located in Lazienki Park which stretches over 76 hectares in the city center of Warsaw. It has a rich history, serving as a private summer residence for King Stanislaw II Augustus and later, after the Germans drilled holes into the walls to blow it up, as a barracks during World War II. The palace was built on an artificial island that divides the lake in two parts and two bridges connect it to the surrounding park. Both the park and the palace make a wonderful sightseeing trip.
Warsaw Rising Museum This museum, which opened on July 31, 2004, is dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Sponsoring research into the history of the uprising, the museum also collects and maintains thousands of artifacts, including weapons and love letters of the time. Interactive displays, written accounts, and testimonies of life during the German occupation are all included in the displays to paint a picture of the many lives affected. Vacation Fulfillment also highlights the "little insurgent" room, dedicated to children's experiences during the uprising, as one of the featured exhibits.
Royal Castle Located at the entrance to Old Town in Castle Square, the Royal Castle served as the official residence of the Polish monarchs throughout the centuries. The castle was repeatedly plundered and devastated by the continuous invading forces, including the Swedish, Brandenburgian, and Tsarist armies. During World War I it was the residence of the German Governor-General and in World War II was the residence of the Polish President. After being burned and looted following the 1939 Invasion, it was rebuilt and reconstructed and is now one of Warsaw's most recognizable landmarks.
Warsaw is a wonderful place to explore and discover new things. A quick train ride from most central European cities, it would be a great overnight trip in the middle of a longer vacation or could certainly be the one stop vacationers enjoy this spring.
