In celebration of National Park Week, April 18-26, Just Ahead, creators of the travel app that turns a smartphone into a GPS-powered audio tour guide, announces the release of their newest destination: Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, available for the special price of just 99 cents through April 30. The regular price is $9.99.
The Just Ahead GPS-powered mobile app (http://www.justahead.com/) turns a smartphone into a hands-free audio tour guide of a growing portfolio of America's national parks and monuments. Just Ahead recently garnered the 2014 Best Travel App award from the North American Travel Journalists Association.
Just Ahead's app and audio guides work even where cell phones, Internet, and Wi-Fi won't, streaming fun and interesting stories spiced with geography, history, and even driving directions as listeners enjoy their drive to and through the national park.
Without fumbling for maps or flipping through guidebooks, driver and passengers alike can sit back and relax while listening to professionally narrated content relevant to their exact location. Imagine touring Sequoia and Kings Canyon and other National Parks through the eyes and curiosity of award-winning travel journalist Bob Howells-three-time winner of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Lowell Thomas Award for travel writing and co-author of National Geographic's Secrets of the National Parks.
Fittingly, one of Howells's Sequoia and Kings Canyon stories concerns John Muir and the Birth of the Parks. Other narratives reveal stories about the world's largest trees and encounters with bears and bighorn sheep that can be part of the passing landscape.
"National Park Week is a special week for us as we seek to make the world a better place by educating and entertaining visitors to America's best idea-our beloved national parks," said Just Ahead founder Gregory Morse. "We believe that people who are informed are more likely to value, preserve, and support these special places."
As of spring 2015, Just Ahead guides are available for the following parks and monuments: Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion and Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, and now, Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Additional park guides are in production and are expected to roll out in time for the busy summer travel season. They include Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, Petrified Forest, Canyon De Chelly, Monument Valley, and Mesa Verde.
Jesse Forest, a satisfied Just Ahead user, had this to say about his recent experience: "Holy cow. Just got back from Death Valley and I can't believe how great the app was along the journey. Not only did it guide us to hikes and places we might have easily overlooked, but gave us perspective of the park that allowed us to appreciate it on a whole new level (history, points of interest, flora/fauna, etc.). As an annual parks pass holder, I look forward to using it on our next adventure."
The Just Ahead app is a free download available through the Apple App Store, and each destination guide is available as an in-app purchase. Guides range from $4.99 - $9.99 and include a free trial and free guide updates. An Android version will be available this May.
