El Cid Vacations Club Recaps Mazatl'n Artisan Festival

By: Jan. 08, 2016

MAZATLN, Mexico, Jan. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ El Cid Vacations Club is pleased to report that the first annual National Artisan Festival of Mazatln was a major success. Held from November 13 through 22, the event featured handicraft artists from all over the nation and was the first of its kind to be held in Mexico. The entire festival was a display of local and regional foods, handicrafts, artwork, and other craft art.

One of the things attendees appreciated was the free admission. That, and the fact that the festival was held directly across from the beloved aquarium, made for a popular hit with locals and visitors alike.

Many of the handicrafts were made from traditional materials like clay, wood, shells and vegetable plant fibers, some of which were woven or sewn into unique designs on clothing, hats, belt buckles and other decorative items. There were nearly two dozen individual stands at the festival, each featuring the works of one artist or a small group of artisans who work together, according to El Cid Vacations Club.

As one wandered among the wares of the multi-talented artists at the festival, there was much more than traditional craftwork on display. In fact, all kinds of metal art, as well as Huichol designs were in the mix, while other craftsmen and craftswomen showed their jewelry and textile creations.

El Cid Vacations Club notes that the artisan festival also included a number of dance demonstrations, including the fire dance, deer dance, numerous pre-Hispanic dances and others. There were many areas set aside for readings of traditional Mexican poetry and literature, while other artists spent time playing guitars and harps as part of an elaborate street theater performance during festival days.

With all the traditional artisan displays, dances, music shows and other related events during the festival, the local authorities commended the event's operators for putting on such a wonderful display of culture and entertainment. During the length of the artisan festival, according to El Cid Vacations Club, there were many tourists from outside of Mexico who saw local and regional artwork for the very first time. This is one of the reasons the local government supports events like the artisan fair; tourists and visitors can get a first-hand glimpse of the real Mazatln, and enjoy the rich diversity of artistic tradition that is Mexico.
