General admission tickets for the three performances of Franz Lehár's comic operetta are $40. Tickets for seniors, students and military with valid identification are $30. Until August 17, a special 2-for-1 discount off the $40 general admission price is available making the tickets just $20 each.

Capitol City Opera Company will present The Merry Widow on September 5 at 8 p.m., September 6 at 8 p.m. and September 7 at 3 p.m. at Oglethorpe University's Conant Performing Arts Center. The Merry Widow, which the Company will perform in English using translations by Christopher Hansall, is a three-act comic operetta that premiered in Vienna in 1905. While The Merry Widow is not widely performed in the United States, its plot can be seen as a quirky take on this country's hugely popular reality show, "The Bachelorette". A prince from a small kingdom courts a wealthy widow with the sole intention of keeping her money in his country. In order to tempt her, he presents her with a cast of local suitors who proceed to fight for her attention and affection. She, in turn, uses her feminine wiles to make the suitors dance to her own tune. Full of hijinks, fun and romance, The Merry Widow makes for an entertaining and often hilarious evening at the opera.

Capitol City Opera Company's production of The Merry Widow is co-sponsored by Arts, Education and Ideas at Oglethorpe University.
