Metropolitan Opera Announces New Casting for SIEGFRIED

Jay Hunter Morris will sing the role of Siegfried in SIEGFRIED on April 21 matinee and April 30, 2012, and in GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG on May 3, 2012. He replaces Gary Lehman who has withdrawn due to illness.

Morris sang the title role in SIEGFRIED earlier this season in the Met's new production premiere on October 27, and again on November 1 and 5, the latter in a worldwide Live in HD transmission. He will also sing Siegfried in GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG at the new production premiere on January 27 and subsequently on February 7 and 11 matinee (also a Live in HD transmission).

Morris made his Met debut in 2007 as Števa in Janácek's JENUFA and sang the title role of SIEGFRIED this past summer at the San Francisco Opera. Other Wagner roles in his repertory include Walther in DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG (San Francisco Opera) and Erik in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER (Atlanta Opera). He has also performed in numerous works by contemporary composers, including Howard Shore's THE FLY, Elliott Goldenthal and Julie Taymor's GRENDEL, André Previn's A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, and Jake Heggie's DEAD MAN WALKING and MOBY DICK.
