Zachary James, Broadway actor and Opera singer recently founded the new NYC experimental opera company, Metropolis Opera Project. He recently appeared in Lincoln Center’s South Pacific as an original cast member, and in 2010, will be playing Lurch in The Addams Family.

Metropolis Opera Project produces world premieres and forgotten treasures that have relevance to our current climate. All of their artists volunteer their time and extraordinary gifts to make great opera in an intimate setting available to NYC.  Their current home, Medicine Show Theatre, seats less than 100, and their ticket cost is $10. Their goal is to present NYC with a unique opera experience at an accessible price. While they encourage patronage from all demographics, they are excited to introduce our work to a generation of first-time opera goers.

They have planned a diverse and provocative 2009-2010 season, to include:

Il Sogno NYC premiere by Kristin Hevner

A chamber opera following characters of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as their stories entangle in an enchanted city. September 25, 26, 27 at Medicine Show Theatre

One Act Festival

Expectation by Arnold Schoenberg

Two Blind Beggars by Jacques Offenbach

Feast in Time of Plague by César Cui

Bully Pulpit world premiere by Kristin Hevner

A marathon evening of four one-act operas packed into two hours, commenting on our current socio-political climate.

January 29, 30, 31 at Medicine Show Theatre
