Elena Manistina will make her Met debut as Azucena in the Saturday, January 19 evening performance of Verdi's Il Trovatore, replacing Stephanie Blythe, who is ill.

Russian mezzo-soprano Manistina has sung Azucena at numerous leading opera houses, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Bordeaux Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Marseille Opera, and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. Earlier this season, she sang two roles at the Bolshoi in Moscow: Marina in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Princess Romanovna in Tchaikovsky's The Enchantress.

Il Trovatore, conducted by Daniele Callegari, also stars Patricia Racette as Leonora, Marco Berti as Manrico, Alexey Markov as di Luna, and Christophoros Stamboglis as Ferrando.
