Calgary Opera's Opera in the Village is back August 13 & 14, and 20 & 21 in Calgary's East Village, presenting two full weekends of opera and free music programming to the community. Hours are 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm daily.

"Calgary Opera, along with Imperial Oil, is excited to present Opera in the Village once again in East Village this summer for the fourth consecutive year," said W.R. (Bob) McPhee, General Director & CEO of Calgary Opera. "Opera in the Village is Canada's only outdoor summer opera festival, and we are proud to bring free opera and musical performances to the community."

The centerpiece of this year's Opera in the Village is The Chautauqua Tent, where all performances will be held in the 350-seat theatre along Calgary's East Village Riverwalk Plaza™. There will be purchased-ticket performances for performances of the family-oriented Hansel & Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck daily at 1:00 pm on August 13 & 14, 20 & 21, and for adults there will be evening performances at 7:00 pm of Cowtown Opera's cheeky comic opera Archiebaldo. In between, The Chautauqua Tent will be filled with free musical programming for all ages, presented by local music groups.

Highlights of the two weekends include free performances by Front Row Centre Players, Vocal Group KIVA, Ukrainian Tangos with Stephania Romaniuk, Foothills Brass Quintet, Cantare Children's Choir, Calgary Fiddlers, and Calgary Stampede Band of Outriders. These events are free to attend with online registration at calgaryopera.com, and onsite guests will receive an Opera in the Village Seed Eco-wristband, which can be planted afterwards to reveal a wildflower.

Tickets for the performances of the family-oriented Hansel and Gretel are $15.00 each (afternoon performance), and adult-themed Archiebaldo performances (nightly) are available at $25.00 each. The remaining programming is free, including afternoon arias by Calgary Opera's Emerging Artists.

Register for your free wristband to attend Opera in the Village online at calgaryopera.com, or to purchase tickets for Hansel & Gretel and Archiebaldo.
