The renovation of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow is experiencing further delays, nearly 4 years after closing its doors for an overhaul which was scheduled to be completed by 2008.

The New York Times reports that the city's mayor has doled out an official warning to the contractor overseeing the project, "We have warned the main contractor that we are on the verge of dispensing with their services." To read the full New York Times report, click here.

The theatre is home to the Bolshoi Ballet and the Bolshoi Opera, who are amongst the oldest and most prestigious performance companies of the world. The theatre is the parent company of The Bolshoi Ballet Academy, a world-leading school of ballet. The Bolshoi has been the site of many historic premieres including Tchaikovsky's The Voyevoda and Mazeppa, and Rachmaninoff's Aleko and Francesca da Rimini.
