Our Basic Nature excerpts from an opera-in-process with Music by John Glover and Libretto by Kelley Rourke

Friday, December 10th - 8:00 p.m.
WNYC's Greene Space
44 Charlton Street (the corner of Charlton & Varick)
New York, NY 10014
DIRECTIONS

Inspired by a true story featured on RadioLab and This American Life, excerpts from the new chamber opera Our Basic Nature receive their premiere at WNYC's Greene Space on December 10th. Incorporating music, projection design, selections from the original RadioLab episode, and a conversation with the artists, the evening will provide an engaging first look at the work-in-process which explores the blurred lines between animal and man.

In 1964, psychotherapist Dr. Maurice Temerlin and his wife Jane adopted a day-old chimpanzee named Lucy. For the first 12 years of her life she was raised "as much as possible as though she were a human being." Using vignettes drawn from Dr. Temerlin's memoir Growing Up Human, Our Basic Nature is a multi-media work for baritone and chamber ensemble in one 50-minute act.

Featuring:

Andrew Wilkowske, baritone
REDSHIFT, ensemble
Jocelyn Dueck, music director
Erik Pearson, stage director/projection designer
