BIO:
The Aligning Minds sound is melodic and bass heavy. It’s emotionally charged future music that rides on hypnotic breakbeats, infectious basslines, dubby soundscapes, and idm experimentation for one to dance or lounge to. Focused on unifying electronic music through diverse inuence, the Aligning Minds sound fuses elements of many genres like dubstep, breakbeat, idm/glitch, garage, downtempo and techno but without the need for formulaic restrictions. In 2004 Michael Folk and Daniel Merrill formed the live electronic music group Aligning Minds as an outlet for their musical expressions. Over the past 8 years they worked together to develop a unique and signature sound. Through the use of both improvisation and mastering studio skills, they've solidied an encompassing and signature sound.This sound has been reaching audiences worldwide, marked with an undeniable sense of originality, and breaking the barriers of rigid genre classications. Intent on reaching a musical standpoint of balance and harmony between stylistic ideas, Aligning Minds moves forward as a musical force with an ethic of positive growth and change. The last year alone has brought a 27 city national tour,features on countless radio shows including BBC Radio 1's "The Mary Ann Hobbs Show", a full length album on Aleph Zero sub label Beats and Pieces, and a handful of compilation / remix releases, including a release on Invisible Allies debut album and a remix featured on Emancipators "remixes" album. Aligning Minds has had the pleasure of collaborating with and performing alongside artists as varied as Emancipator, Invisible Allies, Alvin Risk, Beats Antique, Robert Manos, Shpongle, Alex Grey, Daedelus, Mochipet, Richie Hawtin, Eskmo, John Tejada, Nosaj Thing, Benga, edIT, Kraddy, Jimmy Edgar, Headhunter, Bluetech, Kilowatts, Untold, OTT, Juno Reactor, Green Velvet, Milosh, and the list continues. Currently for 2012, they are focusing on their upcoming release schedule, which includes another full length album along with features on multiple compilations, a few remixes and a steady schedule of live performances. The vision expands beyond just music the current aim of the Aligning Minds “movement” is to take their sound - and to share it, to cross stylistic and creative boundaries, to unite people and their ideas, to spread the seed of common understanding - and to drop some muthaf---in’ bass in the process. All ideals aside, this is music from the imaginations, hearts and souls of two producers who want to use music to unite people and assist in positive growth and change.
