BIO:
Action Camp is a duo from Pittsburgh, PA whose music combines equal parts surf, dream pop, doom, and electro. Members Maura Jacob and Bengt Alexsander draw inspiration from literature, religion, folklore, and visual art to write pieces ranging from minimalist, linear song progressions to more conventional but lush pop structures. The end result is music that merges the organic with the synthetic by layering and augmenting traditional instrumentation with electronic sampling and effects. Their atmospheric sound, along with an involved stage performance, creates “a work of stagecraft, a piece of theatre, and a big-top attraction that is the inspired product of two very active and productive imaginations” (Burghsounds blog, 2009).
After forming in 2006 and playing in the Boston scene for 3 years, the duo relocated to Pittsburgh, PA in 2009. Today, Action Camp remains an ever-evolving entity with music that can be quiet then loud, slow then fast, organic then synthetic, but always drenched in reverb and charm.
