Montreal's own ambassador of international bass and tropical riddims Poirier delivers his latest EP, a free offering available on his website for download. The newest gem from the deep Poirier catalogue is an exploration in the riddim tradition in its purest form, presenting the listener with an infectous beat designed for dancefloors across the globe. Over this instrumental backdrop, Poirier invites MCs and vocalists from the four corners of the planet, producing a worldwide palette of different styles and languages in one short musical adventure.
Mr. OK, a recent Montreal resident and Port-au-Prince native, kicks off the celebrations and represents for Haïti with his unique Créole flow, leaving his mark all over "Jokma." He is followed by Boogat and Madhi, spicing up the riddim with an undeniable latino flavor on "Siempre Mas Pesa'o," just as memorable as Poirier and Boogat's 2010 latino anthem "Que Viva". Next up is Kween G, a Ugandan MC living in Australia who recorded her session in Kampala in the midst of constant power outages only to mark one of the EP's highlights. Set&Match, a collective from Montpellier, France are part of a new wave of lyricism in the french scene and show off their gusto by goofing around on the beat with their distinct non-chalant raps. Lastly, L'Xtrmst.Zen, a veteran of the Montreal rap scene, represents Canada with a twist by rapping in Créole, showcasing the EP's essence with a perfect closer.Videos
