Ash Reiter performs "Ishi" and "Francais" on a sunny cliff for Backseat Beat.
Ash Reiter performs live for Daytrotter - "Her voice holds likes a candle that sometimes catches a gust from a breeze - thrushing a couple of times with some flapping sounds as it passes - and then gets strong and orange again, standing erect and pointing toward the sky."
Ash Reiter returns to Daytrotter - "Words and glances, gazes and touches are memorialized as Reiter sings, clutching to the vast number of subtleties that reach her and then stick around, frozen in their glories."

Press praise for Ash Reiter
Ash Reiter is a delightful young talent with already well-developed songwriting skills. Her voice could be compared to any number of familiar names, Zooey Deschanel or Jolie Holland being the most readily available, but it is a sign of her gifts that she really doesn't benefit from comparison to anyone. Behind her vintage, lipstick-red National, she drives familiar yet distinct pop songs in a voice that, if anything, is stronger live than on her recordings. In her smoky blend of retro pop and modernism, sincerity and ironic detachment, her music brought to mind Sondre Lerche at several points. The tuneful nature of her compositions and the balance of wit and honesty in her voice are thoroughly winning.

Ash Reiter, a woman whose voices reminds me of how beautiful womens voices can be. She's soulful, she's honest. I cringe when lady singers are likened to Jolie Holland. The comparison is made all too often. Reiter is truly one of her own, and yes, although there are evident Holland influences... she stands on her own. The girl can croon.

She starts singing and that's when you've got to realize that she's been illuminated, a few times over.
Daytrotter, Sean Moeller

There's nothing to snarky to be said about a demure vocal beauty such as Ash Reiter. She's got the kind of achingly sweet voice that purrs even on seemingly innocuous lyrics like "ain't got not money, ain't got s." She drags it out, hitting each note with a hint of that indefinable, magical pixie dust known to bless ladies like Cat Power and Mirah.

More about Ash Reiter
Leading the way in a fusion of musical stylings that encompass the jazz elements of Feist and the intimacy of Cat Power, Ash Reiter won't let the beat drop whether she is crooning about trampled hearts or singing an ode to a run down apartment. Reiter has been performing and touring since 2006 when she started her college band, Drunken Boat, a lo-fi folk affair with a sound that now underlies the more dance oriented rock and roll sound she now represents.

A voice like honey and whiskey and lyrics like... well, honey and whiskey, Reiter brings you California soaked grooves and an arsenal of rock gems. She'll lure you in with delicate folk-pop melodies made believable by Reiter's charming rough edge.

Both sides are probably a necessity for Reiter in her day job as a music teacher Catholic school.
Reiter's debut album, Paper Diamonds, was partially recorded in Arizona with musicians she met on tour. The spontaneity of those recordings is balanced with the stability of the remaining tunes which were produced by Reiter at home with her drummer, Will Halsey. Other members of the Ash Reiter band include brothers Scott Brown on Bass and Drew Brown on Lead Guitar and background vocals from Erica Fink. Their 7", Marooned, is due out March 10, and their second full length, Hola, will be released later this spring.
