Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation 2014 Performances Announced

Every summer, leading innovators in new dance and improvisation descend upon Seattle for the international Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation, now celebrating its 21st year.

Festival performances open with the all-star SFDI faculty sharing the stage for an evening of new improvisational works for Dance Innovators in Performance at Broadway Performance Hall. This critical mass of todays most highly regarded dance artists have been dancing everywhere but in the mainstream.

Closing night, internationally celebrated dance artists and improvisers, Michael Schumacher, Kirstie Simson, Darrell Jones, Mark Haim, and musician Thomas Schumacher come together for The Gathering, a powerful evening of virtuosic improvisation in Velocity's Founders Theater.

The Seattle Festival of Improvisation (SFDI) is one of the world's leading festivals of dance and improvisation, bringing together renowned dance artists and teachers to perform, collaborate and share their creative processes. SFDI is a jam-packed week of intensives, classes, jams, somatic workshops, performances and discussions focused on fostering the study and practice of dance improvisation.

This year: SFDI is also partnering with ALL RISE/In Site in South Lake Union and the Yellow Fish Durational Performance Festival for a special week of site-specific and durational performances and workshops taking place throughout Capitol Hill and SLU.

All events are FREE at Velocity (1621 12th Ave) unless otherwise noted. OPEN TO ALL.

Seven of the all-star SFDI faculty have seven minutes to speak to what currently drives their research and practice. Immediately following the lighting talks, the community joins in on the conversation. With Michael Schumacher, Kirstie Simson, Eric Beauchesne, Neige Christenson and more!
