Princeton Ballet School's Summer Intensive Program to Present AN EVENING OF DANCE, 7/25

On Friday, July 25, 2014, students from Princeton Ballet School's Summer Intensive will be dancing in the program's culminating performance. The show, entitled An Evening of Dance, will take place at the Berlind Theatre in the McCarter Theatre Center at 6:30pm.

Now in its 32nd year, Princeton Ballet School's Summer Intensive program annually attracts top dance students from around the world. This year, over 100 students came from across the United States, including California, Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Indiana, Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Utah. International students are from Hong Kong, Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, and Italy. An Evening of Dance will showcase pieces that students have been rehearsing for the past three weeks, alongside their rigorous training schedules.

This year's performance will include a variety of pieces, ranging from restaged excerpts from classical ballets to new works by Princeton Ballet School faculty members. Maria Youskevitch will be re-staging the "Vision Scene" from the classical ballet, Don Quixote, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa. Mary Barton, Resident Choreographer of American Repertory Ballet, will be reviving a work she created for the 2012 performance of An Evening of Dance, entitled Once Upon a Summer's Day, with music by Dmitri Shostakovich.

The new works that will be performed this summer include another piece by Barton, entitled Songs, Not Sung, set to Felix Mendelssohn's "Songs without Words." Also premiering at this show will be new works by Princeton Ballet School teachers Erika Mero and Janell Byrne.

"We are excited to present a challenging and varied program as the Summer Intensive program comes to a close," says Princeton Ballet School Director Mary Pat Robertson. "It is so gratifying to see these students grow so much during their five weeks of intensive study here, and to then see all that hard work take on a new life onstage."
